By: Bert B. Beach
If you’ve never heard of Bert B. Beach; you’re not alone! This Seventh-day Adventist “statesman;” as some have called him; is probably better known by other churches’ world or national leaders than by the members of his own denomination. So who is this man? The son of missionary parents; Bert was born into church work. His family entertained visiting pastors; teachers; and church administrators frequently; and Bert was just as interested in theological debates as administrative discussions. Not surprisingly; his potential was discovered early—he became the principal of a church school in California at the ripe age of 21. By all appearances it was the beginning of a solid career in education. But God had additional plans in mind for him; plans that included religious liberty and interchurch relations on a global scale. Bert would eventually learn five languages; work on six of the seven continents; and rub shoulders with some of the world’s most influential religious leaders. Step by faithful step; this man has been determined to follow Jesus’ path—and God’s direct leading in his life is both humbling and inspiring.
