Lester Hawkes always knew he was going to be a missionary. He just didn’t realize it would happen so soon! When the call came in 1945, he and Freda married quickly and set off for Papua and New Guinea, known to the world for crocodiles, isolation, tribal fighting and amazing cultures.

Lester Hawkes, with his wife Freda, is now retired in Cooranbong, New South Wales, Australia. Brad Watson is a lecturer in international development studies at Avondale College of Higher Education in Cooranbong, NSW. He is author of the Finding David series of books.
